Water keeps everything moving-cooking, hygiene, and morale. Here’s how to store quickly, filter safely, and ration smartly for short-term disruptions.
Store Fast, Treat Right
- Targets: Aim for 1 gallon per person per day for 3-7 days, plus pets.
- Fast storage: Fill tubs/sinks (liners help), bottle clean containers, and freeze some bottles.
- Treatment: Use a gravity filter; for disinfection, unscented bleach (8.25%) at 6-8 drops/gal; wait 30 minutes.

- Storage goal: 1 gal/person/day (+ pets)
- Tub/sink liners; dedicated jugs & cubes
- Gravity filter + backup squeeze/pump
- Bleach (8.25%); 6-8 drops/gal; 30 mins
- Pre-filter dirty water (cloth/filter)
- Rationing: drink > cook > hygiene
- Toilet backup: lined bucket, gel, bags
- Label & date; rotate every 6-12 months
- Go-bag water 2-3L/person + electrolytes
